As the oldest garden club in Quebec, we are proudly celebrating our 90th anniversary this year, commemorating Canada’s impressive garden heritage, along with the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association.
The Club received 16 proposals from across Montreal, environs and the Eastern Townships – from churches, schools, libraries, horticultural societies and not-for-profit farms. All shared in the common goals of promoting ‘Farm to Table’ environmental awareness, teaching about food security and sharing, cooking, socializing and harvesting local produce, fruit and herbs (Incredible Edibles). Most were committed to revitalizing unused public spaces, developing accessible and community permaculture landscapes (agricultural ecosystems that are sustainable and self-sufficient). Some even had Suzuki Butterflyaway Pollinator projects underway, growing habitats for bees and butterflies in their neighbourhoods to promote pollination and biodiversity.
